ADVOCACY SERVICES
May include but are not limited to:
- Initial family meeting
- Detailed review of educational records and evaluations
- Telephone or email consultation with parents &/or student, as needed
- Guide in organizing materials
- Work with the TEAM to develop goals, objectives/benchmarks, and accommodations for the IEP
- Work with the TEAM to develop a 504 Plan
- Provide an explanation of educational law as it may apply
- Recommend strategies
- Accompany family to IEP, 504, &/or parent/teacher meetings
- Support in developing Student Health Plan
- Provide a supportive and positive atmosphere throughout this process
- Observe student in school setting
- Facilitate the development of a Person Centered Plan

The internship will be catered to your needs and interests and can include but is not limited to:
- Observing meetings with clients
- Observing Team meetings
- Observing Progress meetings
- Guidance in:
- How to read and integrate data including evaluations, IEPs, progress monitoring data, etc
- Creating strategic plans with clients
- Organizing your paperwork
- How to write meeting agendas
- How to write partial rejections to IEPs
- How to effectively communicate before, during, and after Team meetings
- How to set-up a billing system
- Being supervised on a pro-bono case
